Sabrina Symphonies

Millie Poppy White is a 16-year-old middle-class white female. She got all 8s and 9s for GCSE due to tutors. She is currently doing 4 A- levels and an AS but due to her not having a tutor anymore she is struggling to keep up with school and her social life. Her favourite subjects are English and Art, although she didn't take art for A-level as her parents told her it's 'just a hobby'. She listens to basic radio pop like Halsey, Ariana Grande and Melanie Martinez (before her scandal). She goes to a relatively white school, thus her music tastes have been influenced by her friends and what they listen to. Millie is a fun-loving teenager with a decent social media following. She tries to dress like her favourite stars and social media influencers. She currently lives in London Chelsea and enjoys going out with her friends on the weekends. The images/types of shot I plan to take for my magazine.

 I was heavily influenced by the Billboard cover and its minimalist style. I got the idea for a vertical mast-head from Billboard as it looked different and interesting. I also used a similar lay out to Billboard front cover but added more text around it. I did change a few things like the font. If you couldn't tell due to my bad handwriting the mast-head and other large fonts are meant be cursive to give the magazine a more feminine feel. This is different from Billboard as they use mostly san-serif fonts in their cover to appeal to a younger audience.       

Marina Petit is an up and coming pop sensation at the age of 18. Due to her father's connections and money her dream of becoming a pop star has finally come true. The first big break was being a contestant on X-Factor and even though she didn’t win the competition, competing in the show increased her fan base. She was posting videos of her self to YouTube singing covers to Ariana Grande songs online before appearing on X-Factor but she didn’t gain that much attention. Marinas Father saw that his daughter was incredibly passionate about becoming a singer so he used his connections to get her a few TV interviews and a Genius Behind The Lyrics video/interview. Marina now has a growing and passionate fan base with three top 20 hits and a number one. Marina is incredibly grateful for her family’s support and love as without them she wouldn’t be where she is now.

My focus group is made up of three female teenagers, my target audience. I asked them all six questions each to help me determine the direction my magazine cover and contents page should go in. Question 1: What magazine/magazines are you most likely to read? Person one: ‘If I am going to pick up a magazine it is usually a fashion magazine, like vogue or allure, but I would pick up a music magazine if it had an artist I liked on the cover like the BTS Billboard cover.’ Person two: ‘No one really reads magazines nowadays but certain magazines have stories on snapchat and I do read those. I frequently watch the cosmopolitan story do I’d probably read that magazine’ Person three: ‘I don’t really read magazines but I’d probably Fader or Billboard’ Question 2: What genre of music do you listen to the most? Person one: ‘Mostly western pop, like Ariana Grande, with a bit of k-pop e.g. BTS, IU, Stray Kids , etc.’ Person two: ‘Mostly rap like xxx, 6ix9ine, Travis Scott, e...
