Focus Group Research


My focus group is made up of three female teenagers, my target audience. I asked them all six questions each to help me determine the direction my magazine cover and contents page should go in.

Question 1: What magazine/magazines are you most likely to read?
Person one: ‘If I am going to pick up a magazine it is usually a fashion magazine, like vogue or allure, but I would pick up a music magazine if it had an artist I liked on the cover like the BTS Billboard cover.’
Person two: ‘No one really reads magazines nowadays but certain magazines have stories on snapchat and I do read those. I frequently watch the cosmopolitan story do I’d probably read that magazine’
Person three: ‘I don’t really read magazines but I’d probably Fader or Billboard’

Question 2: What genre of music do you listen to the most?
Person one: ‘Mostly western pop, like Ariana Grande, with a bit of k-pop e.g. BTS, IU, Stray Kids , etc.’
Person two: ‘Mostly rap like xxx, 6ix9ine, Travis Scott, etc.’
Person three: ‘Mostly pop music”

Question 3: What qualities do you think a music magazine need to be successful?
Person one: ‘A cohesive theme and genre’
Person two: ‘Relevant artists and stories’
Person three: ‘News and gossip to draw in more readers’

Question 4: Who is your favourite musician?
Person one: ‘Ariana Grande all the way’
Person two: ‘XXX Tentacion’ 
Person three: ‘I don’t really have a favourite music artist’

Question 5: Who do you think has the best style?
Person one: ‘BTS as they always looks so well put together’
Person two: ‘Probably someone like Rihanna’ 
Person three: ‘Ariana Grande’

Question 6: Which magazines do you find most aesthetically pleasing?
Person one: ‘Probably Vogue as the models on the cover always look good’
Person two: 'Fader as it’s very minimalistic’
Person three: ‘Billboard due to the bright colours’
